Visions from the Past

These pictures were taken by Jeremy Nichols, a board member and founder of Wedge Community Cooperative. All were taken between 1974 (the year the Wedge was "born") and 1978.

This was a very different era for The Wedge. Located on Franklin Avenue (where Xtension Generation is now, at 715 West Franklin Avenue), produce was sold outside on the sidewalk when weather permitted; the Dairy and Produce Departments shared a cooler; and the store was so crowded with product and people that cash register lines went from the front to the back of the store (about 50 feet).

The Wedge was at this site at the Franklin site until 1979, when the co-op expanded, purchasing the Seven Eleven on Lyndale Avenue (basically where the co-op's north parking lot is now).
