The Wedge Classroom

The Wedge Co-op strives to provide excellent educational experiences. Our program emphasizes cooking classes, with a mix of lectures or demos on topics relating to food or natural body care.

To Teach a Class

E-mail proposals are preferred. Send a request for teacher information to elizabeth@wedge.coop. Please follow proposal outline to the letter!

Be sure to include all available Wednesday and Thursday evenings you would be available to teach in the class period covered by the proposal.

Classes are scheduled only on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday evenings beginning no earlier than 7:00 p.m. and ending by 9:30 p.m. Most Tuesdays are already reserved.

Classes are scheduled two months at a time and the schedules are mailed with our newsletter, At the WEDGE, and posted on our web site.

Deadlines for class proposals are the same as those for ads in our publication, At the WEDGE.

* July is generally reserved for food preservation or grilling classes outdoors at a teacher's home. August classes are only in the first two weeks.

** Classroom closes the week before and the week of Thanksgiving, and the last two weeks of December.

Deadline for class proposals in 2012

  • February 17 for classes May/June 2012
  • April 20 for classes July/August 2012
  • June 22 for classes September/October 2012
  • August 24 for classes November/December 2012
  • October 25 for classes January/February 2013

Tuition

  • Instructors determine what to charge for their classes. The Wedge retains a percentage of tuition collected to cover our costs. We require that co-op members from all area food co-ops be charged $3-5 per class less than non-members.
  • The maximum class size is 25. Teachers may select a lower maximum class size. The minimum class size can be no higher than 8 students. Teachers may choose to set a lower minimum.
  • Two seats per class are reserved for Wedge staff members at no charge. (This is not included in your minimum participant count, and does not apply to classes with prerequisites or to small hands-on classes.)
  • Payment is mailed within ten business days following each class.

  • Listing in Mix, the local all-co-op bimonthly newspaper
  • 15% discount on products purchased at the Wedge for use in classes
  • Orientation to classroom equipment and safety features

Classroom Facility

Our classroom kitchen features 2 Thermador ranges (6- & 4-burner); and ovens, 1 double & 1 single sink, dishwasher, 2 garbage disposals, and a selection of cookware and dish ware.

Also available are: a television and VCR, erasable white board, easel, pad of paper and markers. It is recommended that you bring your own knives, as classroom knives are not professional quality.

The Wedge does not allow the classroom for use to promote products from multi-level companies nor the distribution of campaign literature.

The Wedge does not offer classes on health care modalities or classes from companies in the health, wellness or fitness business.
