Frozen Foods
When most shoppers look for fine, locally-made products, they go to the Produce Department for the Gardens of Eagan corn, or to the Grocery Department for Minnesota's Native Harvest wild rice.
But shoppers should seek out the Wedge's Frozen Department for home-spun goods, too. You'll be rewarded if you do. "We don't have a whole lot of room for local products," says Nate Oerter, the Wedge's Frozen Foods buyer, "so the quality has to be very high for us to carry it."
He points to the great selection of ice cream as an example. "Our local ice creams are small batch, gourmet. Really top notch." Local confectioners Sonny's Ice Cream, Ahana's (green tea, lemongrass, ginger ice cream) and Cedar Summit fill our customers' baskets year-round.
And while they aren't from Minnesota, terrific products come to us from Wisconsin Door County, too. They offer us a variety of delicious crisps that are easy to make and highly rewarding (the Door County cherry crisp is mouth-watering!). The Wedge Frozen section also carries a wide variety of product's from Amy's, one of the last and best privately-owned, certified organic food manufacturers in America. Their frozen hand-rolled burritos, lasagna, and hand-tossed pizzas are customer favorites at the Wedge.
"I think our selection in the freeze is pretty darn tasty," says Nate.
