How it all began...

As an adolescent, Galen Labs' founder Kevin Olson started mixing a foray of natural skin products in his home. Olson's search for the perfect skin and body care solution has turned him into a life-long skin care aficionado.

While researching the history of skin care, essential oils, and other healing elements, Olson became interested in the discoveries of Claudius Galen, the most famous and respected physician in the second century. A personal physician to Roman emperors and gladiators, Galen was also a prolific herbalist who wrote thirty books on pharmacy. The compendium, Galen's Pharmacopoeia, listed and described more than 700 plant ingredients that Galen used in his prescriptions.

Back in Galen's time, there was no such thing as synthetic ingredients. Everything he used to treat his patients was natural. Today, however, synthetic ingredients are the norm.

Natural formulas still hold the same beneficial properties as they did in Galen's time, and this is the foundation for Galen A.D. Natural skin care. To that end, roughly 50% of Galen Labs' ingredients are certified organic. The other 50% are "wild-craft harvested," which means that they are organic but without certification (organic certification can be cost-prohibitive for very small growers). We source ingredients from all over the world and mix them at our lab in Buffalo, Minnesota.

Galen Labs currently makes 18 different products including Shea Cream, made with 100% wild-craft harvested Shea butter from Ghana; Dead Sea Salts, made from organic essential oils, emollients, and a blend of salts from the Dead Sea; and a 12 Element Facial Serum with vitamins, fatty acids, and collagen proteins for health radiant skin.

Galen Labs will donate a percentage of their net profit to the Susan G. Koman for the Cure foundation, a nonprofit organization dedicated to finding a cure for breast cancer.
