The Wedge boasts the first USDA Certified Organic Meat Department in the country!

First Certified Organic in 2002, we don't rest on past achievements. Our buyers put thought and care into every purchase to bring you the tastiest grass-fed, Certified Organic, all-natural, local and humanely raised product choices.

Seventy percent of the meat we sell comes from local producers. We cultivate relationships with our producers and processors, so we understand their practices. Our vendors set the standard for humane animal treatment and sustainable farming or ranching practices.

Our staff are specialists who can tell you how to cook anything in the department and are happy to make specialty cuts.

Our staff produce custom sausages and fresh ground meats in the room right behind the meat counter — you can watch them work — from the same meats and poultry we sell in our cases.


We buy much of our seafood directly from the fishermen. Freshness is guaranteed, as we take delivery of seafood six days a week. Our buyers address eco-concerns by avoiding over-fished species and seafood from endangered ecosystems.

Features include fresh and smoked specialties including, but not limited to:

  • Alaskan Sockeye salmon
  • Alaskan King and Coho salmon
  • Rainbow Trout
  • Herring, Whitefish and Lake Trout


The co-op places high priority on environmentally friendly practices and products. Our Meat and Seafood Department recently replaced Styrofoam meat trays with a tray made from renewable sources such as sugar cane pulp, cattails, tapioca root, corn starch, asparagus, and/or bamboo. While these trays break down quickly, we do not suggest composting the trays at home because they have been in contact with raw meat.
