Easter is a time of traditions, and the traditional bread tied to this holiday is a hot cross bun. What is that, you ask? You thought hot cross buns were only part of a nursery rhyme? Well, you are in for a treat.

Our hot cross buns are made from a rich dough (containing eggs, butter and sugar), have a touch of spice and are dotted with raisins and candied orange peel. Then, of course, there's the white icing 'cross' on top that adds a bit of sweetness. These buns were traditionally made only on Good Friday, but they're so delicious we bake them all Easter week.

Hot cross buns have been made for centuries, and there is a lot of superstition surrounding them. For instance, a bun baked on Good Friday will supposedly never spoil; a bun hung in the kitchen ensures perfect bread making and protects the home from fire; sharing a bun with someone else guarantees your friendship throughout the following year; and taking buns on a sea voyage will help prevent shipwreck. Now, we don't know about all that, but they sure taste good.

May brings another special holiday: Mother's Day. Our pastries make the perfect addition to your brunch menu. Whether she prefers croissants, coffee cake or cinnamon rolls, we've got you covered. Look for our miniature plain and chocolate croissants especially—a six-pack of those can make a lot of people happy. You can also special order an assortment of these baked goods so they're boxed up and waiting for you. Show your mom how much you love her with pastries!

Our catering menu features plates and platters that are perfect for spring and summer parties, in addition to a broad selection of seasonal and special occasion items you can pick up at the Wedge Deli on a moment's notice. There you will also find the information for ordering customized cakes, including vegan and gluten-free options.

For Mother's Day brunches, the Deli will carry a variety of lovely quiches, frittatas and side dishes like roasted potatoes. Complete the menu with elegant scones, muffins or European-style pastries from our own bakery.

The dessert case is full of lovely cakes, pies, cupcakes and other treats. Strawberry shortcake and angel food cakes are on the spring menu, along with homemade truffles.

If you have not yet noticed, we shrunk the cupcakes into a smaller version for a lower price. They are now just $1.79 each or a four-pack for $5.99, perfect for gatherings.

Memorial Day is the official kickoff of Grilling Season. Complete your menu with co-op potato salad, summer slaws and pasta salads. Don't forget about our baked beans and chicken wings for potlucks. The Eco Party Pack, available again this year, is especially nice for outdoor events.
