People come to The Wedge for the two key staples of life: Food and information.
You'll have to go to the actual store if you're body-hungry, but if you're "brain-hungry," then you need to tune in to the virtual store, wedge.coop, our new website.
"New" is maybe the wrong word, since The Wedge has had a website for years. But the site has recently received an extreme makeover from Minneapolis-firm Designstein, who've given it a bright magazine format, nimble navigation, and eye-pleasing graphics and icons.
More importantly, wedge.coop will be jam-packed with goodies for the information-starved.
Every month on the home page, you'll find articles showcasing different aspects of the co-op and its many products that you may have missed in your busy trips through the store, important issues of the day, and new tips for shopping and cooking that you won't want to miss.
Fresh from the Farm, on the Produce page, will be updated weekly through local growing seasons, and a burgeoning library of fruit-and-veggie pics from professional photographer Greg Thompson will show you what produce is available in Aisle One that week.
In our Up to the Minute! section, you can read about food issues and co-op news that can't wait until The Wedge Newsletter sees print. You can access current and old issues of the newsletter here, too. Dating back almost a decade, this archive is an incredible volume of recipes, cooking hints, and information on food and food politics, written by some of the best chefs, "foodies," and agricultural activists in the Twin Cities.
Before shopping, you may want to look at the Specials pages, where all the best deals in The Wedge are listed. Search by department or product, then print out the list before you ever leave the house.
Another great place for accessing information is at one of our classes. Taught by accomplished cooks in a variety of dietary styles, our classes are a great place to learn new techniques - for culinary veterans and rookies alike. Schedules are always available at wedge.coop.
Keep checking the site as we tinker and play with all the fun technopossibilities. A search engine is currently being built to allow surfers swifter access to that mondo-archive of newsletter articles, and we're also examining ways to either email members with a .pdf of the newsletter or to let them know via email that the current issue is available online.
And even bigger schemes are afoot...
So turn on to wedge.coop, tune in, and surf out!
