Local Youth Learn Service and Leadership Skills

Share

The Waite House Jumpstart youth will be representing Minneapolis at the 17th Annual Service-Learning Conference in Philadelphia this March. Waite House Jumpstart is a group of 7th-9th graders in the Phillips community who are dedicated to achieving social change through service learning and community organizing. Some youth have accomplished over 300 service learning hours in only two years!

At the conference, the youth will be presenting a workshop, networking with thousands of other youth from all over the world, and learning even more ways to help their community. Howard Zinn will be the keynote speaker at the event.

The group has already raised about $2,000 of the $8,800 it will require to send 9 youth delegates. If you are able to help sponsor the trip, or would like the youth to speak at an event about service learning in Phillips, please contact Julie Graves at 612-455-0365 or Waite House: 2529 13th Ave. S., Minneapolis, MN 55404.
