Thank You, People's Co. Bakery!

In November, 2002, People's Company Bakery closed its doors on Lake Street after 31 years. Many people remember the early years of co-op shopping and the abundant trays of carrot and carob cakes, bars made with honey, filled with nuts and seeds, and the hearty and rich whole grain breads that lined the shelves of our stores. We have People's Co. to thank for this tradition of naturally baked breads in the Twin Cities.

Responding to the flood of requests for the original People's holiday fruitcake and the spelt flax bread, owners Mark Suchy, Steve Spoering and Jimmy Young generously gave their prized recipes to area co-op bakeries. The Wedge is proud to present the original recipe spelt flax bread, located in aisle 7. The recipe developed by People's head baker Steve Spoering, has by popular demand from our customers been designated the cities' best spelt bread!

Also look for the new line of Wedge dairy-free wheat breads including 100% Whole Wheat, Sesame, Sunflower, and Multi-grain. These moderately-priced breads have a creamy texture along with a hearty taste!
