The Mill City Farmers Market, founded in 2006 with a distinctive focus on local, seasonal, sustainable and organic foods, returns this year with more unique vendors and products, cooking demos and food tastings and a new Thursday night market!
Led by Brenda Langton, chef and owner of Spoonriver and Café Brenda, the market is located on Chicago Avenue and 2nd Street South along the beautiful Mississippi River overlooking the historic Stone Arch Bridge. Vendors selling pasture-raised meats, heirloom and organic produce, artisan foods, flowers, garden plants and quality, locally made arts and crafts line the plaza next to the Guthrie Theater and fill the historic Mill City Museum train shed. Market highlights include special themed events featuring local chef demonstrations, kids cooking classes, free food samples, festivals, contests and an eclectic mix of local music.
In addition to Target as lead sponsor, 2007 market sponsors include: Mill City Museum, Spoonriver, Institute of Agriculture and Trade Policy, Heartland Food Network and Cynthia Froid/Keller Williams Realty.
Market days are Saturdays 8am - 1pm through October 20th, and new this year, 20-25 vendors will participate in a Thursday evening market, beginning June 7th, from 4pm - 8pm.
